When I visited Chengdu, China, it was pretty much buried in a permanent hazy smog. We travelled outside of Chengdu to the Buddhist holy mountain of Emei Shan to stay, and one gorgeous day we broke through the seemingly permanent clouds to see the temples and the statue of Pu Xian, gleaming in the sun against a sky we hadn't seen in days. Easy to see why Emei Shan is considered holy.
